Black and White Lace Bra

It’s February already! And one of my favourite bra-making bloggers, Emerald Erin, has declared February as the Lace Month. So… there it is my first lacy bra of the month! 🙂

For this bra, I used my pattern for a vertical seam cup bra and justI added an internal sling or power-bar to the cups!

If you don’t know a thing about the wonderful world of power bars, fear not: I plan to write an extensive post about power bars very soon! So I’ll just say now that the power bar in this bra is that pink piece of fabric that you can see in the cups sides.  BlackAndWhiteBraInside

And this is my lacy bra modelled by my dressform Greta!

As you can see, the bra is made entirely of lace, including the back band. The cups are made with a fairly stable lace with just a hint of mechanical stretch, and they’re lined with powernet, so they’re soft and a bit sheer.  I sandwiched an elastic black lace trim between the layers of the cup seam, to add a bit of interest to this vertical seam. The back band is made of stretch black lace, and I warn you that you’re likely to find this lace again on a lot of future projects: I went to a local fabric market and I bought several meters of it for less than a dollar! How great is that? 😉

And now let’s talk about the fit! It’s good overall, and I particularly love the soft feel of the cups. They provide a really natural shape, and the power bar at the side helps to push the breast tissue slightly to the front. However, the strap attachment ended up being a little too high for my taste. It isn’t uncomfortable, though, so I guess that I just need to get used to it!

What have you been sewing lately? Any lacy projects for February? 😉
